Two students were killed and four of their classmates injured when the WagonR they were travelling in jumped a road divider and collided headlong into an oncoming car, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place at around 11.20 pm on Wednesday near Mayur Vihar Phase-I Metro station in East Delhi when 18-year-old Samarth lost control at the wheel. “After jumping the divider, the car collided into another car heading towards Mayur Vihar,” said a police official. The occupants of the other car — a couple and their three-year-old son — also sustained injuries.

The police official said the six engineering students, all in their 20s, were returning to Delhi from Noida after attending a friend’s birthday jamboree. Three students are from Arya Nagar Apartment of IP

Extension, one from AGCR Enclave, and two from Pitampura. They have been identified as Vishal, Ujjwal Tyagi, Samarth Saxena, Neeraj, Shubham and Sagar. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered.

In another incident, an Audi rammed into a stationary autorickshaw in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on the intervening night of Wednesday. The car is registered in the name of Brijnath Ramnath, a timber bizman. The incident took place around 1 am at the Subhash Nagar signal. Ramnath’s son was driving the car and was on his way home after attending a party at a pub.
