The accused had shared one number with fictitious names from different locations of the national Capital and had cheated large number of people on the pretext of providing domestic maids, according to Monika Bhardawaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West district.

“The modus operandi of the Bhagam Bhag gang was to send a girl to the targeted household only after taking security deposit. Once inside the house, the girl posing as domestic help used to slip away within half an hour or so from the house and not to be found again,” said the DCP.

However, the gang ran out of its luck once a complaint was filed against a gang member at Hari Nagar police station by a resident of the area.

“In her complaint Deepa said that on November 21, a placement agency with name “Three Star” offered to provide a housemaid to her. A deal was finalized for Rs 32000. However, on the very next day, the said placement agent sent a maid Manisha along with a lady Reena at the house of the complainant. The complainant gave Rs 32000 to Reena. Thereafter, Reena took the money and left Manisha at the house. However, the maid absconded from the house of the complainant very next morning. Even the mobile phone of the maid as well as Tejbir, owner of the placement agency was found switched off,” said the DCP.

“Acting on the complaint a First Information Report (FIR) was filed and accordingly raids were laid and the accused were arrested. During interrogation, accused persons have disclosed to have committed more than 50 such incidents of cheating in various parts of Delhi, Vrindavan, Gurugram and Ghaziabad.
