Days after 40-year-old woman Sudhir Bansal died after falling from a moving train, while resisting snatching bid near the Old Delhi Railway station on Sunday, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has apprehended two robbers.
One of them suspected to be a minor had pushed the woman from a moving train, killing her on the spot. Senior officers said the duo was nabbed by the RPF men following a raid after which they were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).
According to police, the main accused has been identified as Sanjay, alias Chowmein. The duo belong to a small gang and reside near abandoned quarters across railway line where the incident took
place.
“led by RPF's crime team, a group of policemen comprising GRP officials raided the abandoned quarters near Azadpur Market area following local intelligence and Chowmein was arrested from there. The bag of the victim — containing her documents, Aadhaar card and some money — was also recovered from him. It was on his instance that police arrested his accomplice, who claimed to be a minor and his age is being verified,” said Sanjay Kishore, the Inspector General cum-Chief Security Commissioner of Northern Railway.
Police said the two men had fled from the spot after seeing the woman fall as they snatched her purse when she was standing near the gate of a general compartment of Yoga Express train.
As the train was moving, the woman resisted the snatching bid but lost balance and fell off. The woman was coming to Delhi with her 18-year-old son to assist him in getting hostel facilities.
