The Ghaziabad police arrested two constables for harassing a newly-wed couple. The incident occurred on Monday evening when the newly-weds went for shopping at Shipra Mall under Indirapuram police station. The constables were identified Vipin and Satish posted at Shipra Sun City police post.
As the couple were boarding their car after shopping, the two constables — Vipin and Satish — intercepted them and harassed them under one pretext or other.
They even questioned the couple if they were in illicit relationship. Though the couple told them that they were married couple, the constables demanded 'convincing evidence'.
The constables threatened them that they would book them for obscene act in public place. The constables allowed the couple to leave only after they paid a bribe of Rs 8,000.
After reaching their home at Windsor Park, they narrated the entire incident to the girl's father who met SSP Nitin Tiwari and lodged a complaint. On the father's complaint, the SSP ordered to book the constables for extorting bribe.
"Both the constables, on leopard duty at Shipra Sun city police post, were found guilty of extorting money from the couple so a criminal case was registered against them. They have been booked under Section 384 of IPC and arrested. A departmental inquiry has also been constituted against them in addition to the criminal proceeding," said SSP Nitin Tiwari to this correspondent.
