Amid the countrywide lockdown due to Covid-19, the Gurugram Police on Thursday caught 12 people travelling in two ambulances that were headed for Bihar.
Police said that the ambulances, which had Uttar Pradesh numbers, were intercepted at Sohna Road on Thursday evening.
The accused also showed fake referral letters of the hospital in order to evade the police.
According to police, the drivers, identified as Satyam Singh of Uttar Pradesh and Brijesh of sector-12 in Gurugram and helpers were Shivam and Ashok who had picked twelve people from Gurugram’s Anjana colony.
"There was a deal that the drivers would pick these twelve people from Anjana colony in Gurugram and drop them to Bihar. The deal was fixed at Rs 7,000 for each passenger," said Preet Pal Sangwan, ACP (crime). When they reached Sohna Road, police checked the ambulance and found all of them inside it. “The drivers and the colleagues of the patients also showed the letterheads of the Vedic Hospital and the Hudson Hospital in Bihar. When the policemen suspected them, they called the numbers in the letterhead which were found to be fake. When the policemen strictly questioned the drivers, they made a complete disclosure stating the letter as fake,” Sangwan said.
The police registered a case against all under relevant sections of the IPC including the Disaster Management Act and started the investigation.
"After the lockdown, several reports came which stated that some people are using Ambulance for transporting vehicles across the border following which police have strengthened its vigil on bordering areas and continuous checking of Ambulances are going on," Sangwan said.
