A 16-year-old Class X student was strangled to death in west Delhi's Ranhola area on Saturday night. Guddu Yadav was killed using a gas cylinder pipe while his parents were out of city to attend a wedding in Bihar.

The motive behind the murder is uncertain, even as police suspects it to be a case of robbery. Guddu studied at a Government school in the area.

"A PCR call was received around 11:20 pm. Guddu’s parents and other family members had gone to attend a wedding in Bihar. Guddu was alone at home during the time. He was strangled with a gas cylinder pipe. The body was found in one of the rooms on the first floor that was occupied by a tenant — Sonu, who is missing after the incident," said V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police, West District.

The incident was reported by Guddu's uncle, who had been calling him to no avail. He got worried and rushed to the house. Preliminary investigations point to a robbery. "The house was ransacked. We are waiting for his parents to arrive. Both hands and legs of the victim were tied," said a police official. The body has been sent for post-mortem. A case of murder has been registered with the Ranhola Police station.
