Maintaining a continuous streak for last few years as a financially well governed municipal organisation,  New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has declared its provisional results for financial year 2021-22 with a net surplus of Rs 534.71 crores, said a senior official.

According to a senior NDMC official, “This year's result shows a significant growth in receipts on both revenue and capital account. The revenue receipts, at Rs 3494.21 crores are 4.73 per cent more than its revised estimates for year and 11.76 per cent more than actuals of previous year.

The capital receipts, at Rs 524.87 crores are also 9.84 per cent more than  revised estimates. The total receipts are Rs 4019.08 crores, 5.37 per cent more than  revised estimates for year.” “The major contribution comes from property tax collections which stand at highest ever figure of Rs 942.32 crores, 36.41 per cent more than previous years’ collection and 47.6 per cent more than the collections in 2018-19. This is in spite of the fact that NDMC has not increased its property tax rates for the last five years.

During the year, the civic body had initiated a drive which focused on realization of past arrears and also launched a new portal for the convenience of added tax payers,” he informed.

“These results have been achieved in an otherwise less encouraging economic scenario in last two years affected by COVID 19. NDMC had not increased the tax rates as also extended various reliefs and time extensions to their residents during pandemic.

Some important initiatives like separating DISCOM (electricity distribution) budget, innovative IT initiatives like blockchain and paperless working as also facilitating contractors to submit paperless bills are strengthening organization and resulting in improved performance,” he concluded.
