‘MCD schools must give right student data to Govt teachers’

Staff Reporter

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday chaired a joint meeting with the Municipal Commissioners of the three civic agencies and the Directorate of Education (DoE) to ensure that MCD teachers give correct data of students studying in corporation schools to the teachers of Delhi Government schools once the children move on to those institutions.

According to the DoE data, every year, nearly 1.7 lakh students from municipal schools join Delhi Government schools in class 6 as the former are feeder schools for the latter. Sisodia asked the officers of DoE and Municipal Commissioners to devise a plan where the Class 5 teacher of the feeder MCD school partners with the Class 6 teacher of the Delhi Government School to provide them with the correct data so that the move for the students is seamless.

The major decisions taken to ensure the mental, emotional and psychological well -being of these students were: Complete alignment of the database of the MCDs with the DoE’s students’ module so that contact and other details of students joining Delhi Government schools are correct; sharing of details by MCD teachers about their former students including their special circumstances with teachers of DoE schools; joint PTM by MCD-DoE teachers for Class 6 students in July while following Covid protocols.

MCD teachers must visit DoE schools regularly to meet with their former students and combine the ‘Mission Buniyad’ strategy for all students of classes 3 to 6 in DoE and MCD schools to strengthen their foundational learning skills.

Sisodia asserted that it was vital to get the correct details of these students from corporation schools so that the class 6 teachers could reach out to them quickly.

Notably, last year, at the beginning of the session only about 30-35 per cent of the students' phone numbers were correct, resulting in students not getting the worksheets or participating in semi-online classes.

Delhi Government School teachers made special efforts to find the whereabouts of these children but eventually only 76 per cent of the children enrolled in class 6 of Delhi Government schools could be reached.
