PNS

Zamir alias Amit, the main accused in the series of ATM heists in Roorkee was sent by the court to 14 days judicial custody after his police remand ended on Monday morning. Observers point out that the apparent lack of coordination between the State STF and Haridwar police has hampered substantial progress in the case.

According to the Roorke police circle officer Kuldip Singh Aswal, earlier, Zamir’s interrogation had revealed that he had first entered the world of crime through hacking about nine years ago. Zamir was attracted to crime in 2006 when another hacker gang had looted about `4.5 crore from 45 ATMs in Surat district of Gujarat. Zamir too has committed similar crimes in Bihar, Delhi, Hyderabad, Gujarat and Uttarakhand. He and his team reportedly looted  more than `5 crore from ATMs in various Indian cities. Aswal further added that Zamir had purchased the software for hacking from Russia online.
