Won't let anti-national talks go unnoticed, says BJP

Reacting to Chief Minister Harish Rawat accusing BJP of trying to take the nation back to the stone age by declaring JNU students seditionists, State BJP spokesman Munna Singh Chauhan said that if anybody speaks against the nation then the BJP and its Government would not let the matter go unnoticed.

Addressing the media, Chauhan said that Delhi Police had lodged sedition charges against those students in JNU who had raised slogans in favour of executed terror convict Afzal Guru. “When BJP leader Jagtar Singh Bajwa in Udham Singh Nagar allegedly stated that anyone hanging the severed head of the Congress vice president outside JNU campus deserves to be worshipped, the Uttarakhand Police under the control of the Congress-led State Government lodged an FIR against the BJP leader under IPC Section 153B that views a person as a seditionist. However, when JNU students raising anti-national slogans are booked for sedition by Delhi police, the Congress alleges that the BJP-led Union Government is trying to disrupt peace in the nation,” he said.

Chauhan reiterated that action will be taken against anyone speaking against the nation. He opined, “The Congress party has double standards displayed when it accused Delhi police of framing students for sedition for raising anti-India slogans while on the other hand, Uttarakhand police booked a person for sedition simply for speaking against a member of the Nehru clan,” he said. Clarifying that neither the BJP nor he himself support the statement made by Bajwa, he termed as unacceptable the manner in which the police booked him.

Regarding Congress leaders accusing the BJP of entering into an alliance with ‘terrorists’ to form the Jammu and Kashmir government, he said that the CM should explain whether he considers the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a terror or political party. Regarding Maoist movement and pamphlet distribution reported in Nainisar on which the CM had said that he knew them, Chauhan said that Rawat’s statement points towards the strong possibility of the Congress having staged purported Maoist activity to divert public focus off Nainisar.

Chauhan maintained that anti national activities were being promoted in JNU involving not the persons working for nation building but those who promote sedition. “For instance at a Mushaira organised in JNU, army men who raised nationalist slogans responding to an anti-India statement made by one of the speakers were beaten and later thrown out of campus. This was officially claimed by the Army headquarter.
