PNS

A woman died from injuries after jumping from a moving train here. The woman had climbed aboard a train at Kashipur railway station along with her daughter and daughter in law but had to alight from the moving train on realizing that the destination of the train was not displayed correctly on the railway coach.

According to sources, Bindukhatta resident Bhagirathi Singh Shahi was going to Gularbhoj along with her daughter and daughter in law. In order to reach Kashipur from the lalkuan railway station, the trio boarded a train with the coach displaying Moradabad-Kashipur as the route. As soon as they boarded the train, they learnt that the train was going to Moradabad and not Kashipur so Shahi’s daughter and daughter in law were able to deboard the moving train but she herself lost her balance and fell down while attempting to do so.

Hearing her screams, the train guard applied the emergency brakes. The woman who had sustained serious injuries was extricated from the railway track and taken to the Sushila Tiwari hospital in Haldwani where she died due to blood loss.

Following this death, the locals have pointed out that the lalkuan railway station remains quite busy during the daytime with people rushing to board the passenger train to Moradabad, passenger train to Bareilly from lalkuan and from Kashipur apart from the passenger train to lalkuan from Bareilly.

Due to confusion regarding the Up and Down trains, there have been several instances of people boarding trains only to realise that the destination is not as displayed.

The locals complain that instead of changing the destination information on the railway coaches, the officials have simply displayed the names of the stations like Kathgodam, lalkuan, Moradabad, Kashipur, Ramnagar and Bareilly City irrespective of whether or not these stations are the final destinations of the trains.

The North Eastern divisional rail manager Chandra Mohan Jindal said that this is a serious issue which will be inquired into.
