The Nainital winter carnival will be organised in Nainital from December 20 to 22 by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board with the cooperation of the district administration. Yatch and boat decoration competition, food festival and trekking will be among the main attractions of the carnival.

Further, Pandav Nritya, Choliya dance, Nanda Devi tableau along with performances by noted folk artistes will also feature during the three-day festival.

The State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj informed that Nainital has had a tradition of winter carnival. While it publicises winter tourism on the one hand, it also encourages folk culture and art.

Such events enable local artistes to establish their identity while providing entertainment to the tourists and the general public. This is the reason why the UTDB is consistently encouraging such events, he said.

The Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar said that Nainital is one of the nationally and internationally important destinations in the state. Tourists from across India and abroad visit this place to enjoy nature and boating. Through events like winter carnival, the local art, culture and food are publicised among the visitors while the tourism business also receives a boost.

The district tourism officer of Nainital, Arvind Gaur informed that the food festival which involves local hotels will also be one of the attractions of the winter carnival. The social campaign for cleanliness will be linked to the trek up to China peak to send a message of adventure tourism and environmental conservation. Various cultural programmes including dance, music, song and drama will be held during the three-day fest, he added.
