With the threat to unleash mayhem proving to be fake, a sense of relief prevails in the campus of Prestigious Welham Girls' School here. A letter supposedly written by the dreaded terrorist organisation Indian Mujahideen (IM) had threatened to unleash unprecedented terror in the school campus between March 30-April 8.
The threatening letter was delivered on March 28, when a person handed over an envelope containing the letter to one of the school guards. The letter was addressed to the principal, who immediately informed the police and district administration authorities about it. The district administration immediately swung into action and deployed armed policemen around the sprawling campus of the school.
The school also tightened the security measures and a strict vigil was maintained in the campus. As an added security measure the school Principal dashed an e mail to all the parents explaining about the contents of the letter and appealed for maintaining calmness. The school also allowed the parents to take their wards home for some days if they wished. Though the school authorities and the police department are a bit relaxed with the time period mentioned in the letter passing off they are not taking any chances.
On Wednesday the armed policemen deployed around the school remained vigilant and barriers before the school are still in place. A mobile team of policemen was also seen positioned near the school entrance. One of the parents said that though she was convinced with the perception of school that the threat was empty still there was an element of fear in her mind. She said that the parents had full faith in the security provided by the school. The manager administration of the School Captain SK Singh told The Pioneer that all the routine activities are going on in the school normally.
