Weaker sections will be allotted land free of cost: Rawat

PNS

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said that there is need to streamline land management and land reforms in the State. For this, a data bank involving each village will be prepared and all the details of lands incorporated therein. A detailed project report (DPR) about its execution will also be prepared.

The District Magistrate of each district will have to provide 180 square yard land for BPl and Antyodaya beneficiaries and other weaker sections of the society, free of cost. To ease the norms, which are being followed since the British era, and the regime of the united Uttar Pradesh, a committee has been constituted as well, he said.

These announcements came after a review meeting with the revenue department officials was held at Bijapur on Saturday.

These are focused on helping the poor in the villages who have not benefited from development schemes. “Through land settlement at the village levels, we would know about the quantum of lands the villagers possess.  We will also address the outstanding land disputes involving the forest and the revenue departments. It will also create fresh demarcation on forest land. With this we would be able to take development well into village level effectively. The Government would have land bank available as well. The State would come to know about how many people are landless and will churn out a plan about how to give lands to the landless poor,” the CM said.

“Currently, the Union Government is running a National land Modernisation Programme. It has allotted Rs 23 crore to the State Government. Wherever possible, we should give approval to the new habitat grant for the landless as well as the border farmers. For this to come up, we will have to ease our revenue laws as well. Till now, the British laws and UP Zamindari abolition and land reform Act and land consolidation schemes are being applied here. However, our condition is completely different from the plains. There is a need to ease the revenue norms so that the commoners should not feel the heat of things. For this, a committee comprising persons having administrative experience and having vast experience in civil case is being constituted,” he added.

During the meeting, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar, Revenue Secretary  Bhaskaranand, Additional Commissioner (Revenue) PS Jangpangi, Deputy Secretary Santosh Badoni, Chief Minister’s  media incharge Surendra Kumar and media convener Rajiv Jain were present.
