The locals after exercising theirs franchise slipped into discussion mode that led to rounds of calculation and speculations about the victory of candidates tried their luck in the polls. Playing smarts, the voters kept their choice secret and enjoyed discussion.

Though result is to be out on April 30, the locals declared winners in their speculations. Interestingly, they all claimed triangular battle for the post of mayor in Dehradun where the BJP candidate Vinod Chamoli, the Congress candidate Suryakant Dhasmana and the BSP candidate Rajni Rawat locked their horns for the coveted chair.

If the locals are to be believed, independents stand nowhere in scene. And there was fight among the BJP, the Congress and the BSP. In their debates, they also mentioned anti-incumbency as a factor that plays important role in deciding the fate of the candidates.

The locals have their own analysis to substantiate their stand for the candidate they were supporting. ‘Who will win for the post of mayor’ did rounds among the people since morning to evening. After coming out of the booths, the people shared their prediction with others.

“I can tell you who will emerge victorious. I think that lotus will bloom,” a person predicted. His companion immediately threw his prediction into air saying that Panja (Hand) will do well. Joining them, third person rejected the forecast by both of them. He immediately came out with new prediction. “You have no idea about this poll. Elephant will change the equation of this poll. It would come with shining colour,” the fourth one said.

Such speculations and prediction were on rife across the city. Fed up with the discussions, a young voter remarked, “There is no use of spending time in discussion. Wait for a day more to know the results. I am wondered why people are wasting their energy in discussion that is useful for nothing. They better focus on some fruitful things.”

The elderly voters should promote young generation for casting their ballots since it was the best way out to bring the candidate with good image in the politics, he said, adding that it was good to see that now youths also started taking interest in democratic festival.

He said several young voters were also engaged in the discussion and were giving opinion about the mayoral poll results. As he said this, one of his friends called him up and asked, “Who is winning the pollsIJ”  He replied, “Wait till Tuesday, I will tell you the name of winner.”
