The stage is all set for the counting of votes for the Panchayat elections on Friday. These polls were held in three phases on June 18, 21 and 24 in all the districts of State barring Haridwar.

On Thursday, the State Election Commissioner (SEC) Subardhan reviewed the preparation for the counting of votes and declaration of results.

He took a meeting of district magistrates and the police officers of all the 12 districts via video conferencing. The SEC informed the officers about the process of declaration of results on internet. The SEC told the officers that in case two contestants get similar number of votes the winner would be decided by chit picking method.

Subardhan asked the officials to ensure that all the candidates declare the statement of the expenses incurred by them within thirty days of counting of votes. Subardhan said that the winning candidates would be disqualified if they fail to submit the above declaration within the stipulated time frame. He ordered that the districts that have not sent the list of newly added voters (new voters were added till June 5) should dispatch the list to the commission immediately. Subardhan said that the police and district administrations should send joint reports for all poll related incidences to the commission failing which strict action can be initiated.

The meeting was attended by Election Coordinator MS Kundra, Joint secretary R S Pokharia, Finance Controller Jagat Singh, Deputy Secretary BD Pandey, and Deputy Commissioner Ajit Singh.
