A book of short stories by Vinayak Jain from Mussoorie has elicited considerable interest since going live on Amazon on August 27.
According to Jain, within 48 hours of going live on Amazon, his book ‘A Medley of Short Stories’ topped the Movers and Shakers list apart from reaching the third position in the Bestsellers in the Short Story category. On the evening of August 29, the book entered the top 100 Amazon Bestsellers in Kindle store at the 99th spot.
A Medley of Short Stories is a collection of nine stories encompassing a variety of genres. From being inches close to an unnatural death on a stormy night to reliving the beauty of Mussoorie’s winter on a pristine morning, from being an audience to a desperate robbery attempt to learning a life-altering lesson from a potter – the book takes the reader on a unique and unpredictable journey. Jain said, “My favourite story in the book is 2 Minutes to Repentance which is about Uday, a man well past his prime. He lives a humdrum life in a scenic hill station, with his only interests being playing snooker and drinking at a local bar with his friends. But this is exactly what his wife, Janvi, despises most about him. She wants him to change and spend more time with the family, but he is adamant, until something massive and unreal happens at work that changes everything.”
Jain’s upcoming work is a novel which is a murder mystery set in Mussoorie. It revolves around the female protagonist Naina Kapoor, an inspector, and the emotional and physical battle she endures after two of her friends are murdered by a rage-driven murderer who is on an unforgiving killing spree.
