Villagers protest as key roads yet to be repaired

PNS

The tall claims made by the department concerned that every possible step would be taken to repair and reconstruct the damaged roads have proved useless as villagers are forced to hit the roads for the construction of route under Kalsi block in Dehradun district.

Although Public Works Department has been working for repairing dug roads in the capital city, the department is yet to take effective steps to repair roads that faced the brunt of natural calamities that rocked Uttarakhand in the month of June. Highly infuriated over the callous approach of the department concerned for not initiating any steps for repairing the damaged roads, villagers from Khokati, Barlau and Badora have been staging protest since last fortnight.

The villagers lamented that memorandum was submitted many times to officials but steps are yet to be taken by the department for redressing their grievances.

Sources confirmed that four kilometer stretch of road under Kalsi block, Dehradun district is yet to be repaired by the department concerned despite the fact that route is hardly far away from Chakrata national highway.

It is also equally important to mention here is that condition of Chakrata block was also worst as nearly half-a-dozen connecting routes and roads were reported to be damaged after facing the brunt of natural calamities.

One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the department has been continuously working for reconstructing and repairing the damaged roads for ensuring the smooth vehicular flow in the fringe parts of the district.

He assured that route would be constructed at earliest once the funds sanction in the near future.

After ruling out the use of sub standard material while repairing the damaged roads, he told that strict department action would be taken

against those nodal agencies, who fail to perform as per the required standards and also those nodal agencies, who fail to meet with deadlines as it creates huge inconvenience to the commuters.
