The administration in different districts is alert over 48-hour very heavy shower warning issued by the regional Met centre on Saturday. The districts which are marked for heavy to very heavy shower for the period are Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh.
The administration in Dehradun district is alert too as the city received over 110 mm of rain in a couple of hours on Friday. The sky remained generally cloudy on Saturday interspersed with a few spells of shower. The Met officers said that while a few spells of shower or thunder shower are likely to lash the district on Saturday one of two spells might be very heavy.
In view of the flash flood that occurred in some areas located by the rivers like Rispana taking a toll of lives and resulting in house collapse last month in Dehradun city, the people living in such vulnerable areas are scared. “The Rispana is now flowing dangerously as it has been raining torrentially for the past few days.
Water often gushes into our houses when it rains heavily. If it rains with such intensity during the night hours we remain wide awake lest something happens,” said one of the people living near the river in Dehradun.
The Met department said that the wet spell with varying intensity would continue to lash several areas across the state for the next 72 hours. However, the spell might be heavy to very heavy in some of the districts of the state for the next two days, it said.
The people living in the vulnerable areas near the rivers should stay alert during the time of warning, a Met officer based in Dehradun said.
Meanwhile, the administrations in different districts marked for very heavy shower warning are now on an alert mode, making arrangements by way of preparing for any eventuality.
