Uttarakhand Kranti Dal demands CBI inquiry

Accusing the State Government of major anomalies in disaster relief works and “criminal exploitation” of Nari Niketan inmates, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Airy) has demanded CBI inquiry into these alleged scams. In order to expose the corruption and emerge as a desirable alternative to the BJP and Congress for voters in the 2017 assembly elections, the UKD will undertake a campaign from January 15 to 30, said the party’s president Pushpesh Tripathi here on Thursday.

Addressing the media in Dehradun, Tripathi said that many families affected in the 2013 disaster had not received adequate compensation from the Government with many such disaster victims still living in tents. Alleging a Rs1,500 crore scam by the government in disaster related works, Tripathi demanded a CBI inquiry into the disaster scam. The persons involved in the alleged criminal exploitation of the women inmates of Nari Niketan should also be probed by the CBI, he stressed.

The UKD head said, “The state transport corporation is also mired by corruption with people from outside the State being appointed as contract workers instead of Uttarakhand residents. The State Government is conspiring to sell the 65 bus station sites situated in prime locations across the State to private companies as done in Dehradun and Nainital so far. In both Dehradun and Haridwar, the local MlAs had advocated such action citing varied causes despite strong opposition of the local residents. Apart from this, we also have information about the various scams orchestrated by managing directors in the transport corporation.”

Referring to the Bahujan Samaj Party dominating the Haridwar Panchayat election results, he said that this was evidence of the public losing faith in both the BJP and Congress.

Strongly objecting to the development of planned smart city project on tea-estate land in Dehradun, the UKD chief stressed that the State Government needs to develop smart villages in Uttarakhand where many remote villages lack basic facilities for health, education, water and power supply.

Tripathi said, “To expose the corruption orchestrated by the BJP and Congress, the UKD will undertake a special campaign from January 15 to 30. From February 15,

the party will hold public meets in Vidhan Sabha constituencies of all the districts,” he added.

Senior party leader Kashi Singh Airy and other party office-bearers were also present in the press conference.
