The third Tehri lake adventure festival is slated to be held on October 15 and 16 with a wide range of water sports to be facilitated apart from which a sailing regatta akin to the one held on Naini lake in Nainital, will also be held during the two-day festival being organised by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) along with the Tehri district administration and the Tehri lake Special Area Tourism Development Authority (TlSADA). State tourism and culture minister Dinesh Dhanai said this while addressing the media here on Friday.
Addressing the media, the State tourism minister said that while Jageshwar ‘international’ programme was held from October 5 to 7 for those interested in Yoga and spiritualism, those in search of adventure will have a range of adventure water sports at the third Tehri lake adventure festival to be held on October 15-16. He informed that a total of 15 different events are slated to be held during this event. The lake adventure festival this year will consist of various water sports and adventure activities including boating, jet skiing, water-skiing, surfing, canoeing, river-rafting, paragliding and kayaking among other activities to be held during the two-day fest centered around the Tehri dam reservoir which covers an area of about 42 square kilometres. On being asked about the estimated cost to be incurred on organizing the Tehri lake adventure festival, the minister said that so far a sum of about Rs 90 lakh had been allocated to the Tehri district magistrate. More than a dozen types of events from recreational sports to cultural presentations will also be held during the fest, apart from which chief minister Harish Rawat had earlier also spoken about holding a meeting of the state cabinet on the Tehri lake, said Dhanai.
The tourism secretary and UTDB chief executive officer Shailesh Bagauli said that Tehri had emerged as a popular destination for tourists, adding that past tourist number in thousands have now increased to lakhs. He said, “At the Tehri lake adventure festival we will be holding various events including paragliding, cycling, speed-boating, rowing, kayaking, canoeing and paramotoring (powered paragliding) will be among the activities to be conducted during the fest.” The UTDB CEO further informed that a jet-ski company will also be organisation its demonstration here on the occasion. The Tehri dam reservoir area is emerging as a good place for paragliding apart from the water sports facilitated on the dam reservoir during the programme. A sailing regatta akin to the one organised on the Naini lake in Nainital will be held on the Tehri lake during the festival. According to officials, in addition to the varied water sports to be held here, the festival will also include “high octane music and dance performances and a grand display of fireworks on the evening of 16th October”, states the tourism
