Garhwal Commissioner DS Garbyal instructed all district level officers of various departments to spend the balance money for development works as early as possible, because the Panchayat election is approaching.
The funds should be utilised for the intended purpose before implementation of the election code of conduct. He said this while reviewing the execution of works under the district plan, State sector and revenue works at a meeting held here. Garbyal stressed that the officers should visit the spot to see if the money is being spent as intended.
He sought information about the progress of the different departments and the money balance so far and directed to speed up the execution of development works. The superintendent engineer of the PWD informed in the meeting that work is in progress and the remaining funds will be spent by March next year. The Commissioner directed him to ensure that the quality is maintained in construction of roads. Garbyal expressed dissatisfaction at the lack of spending by Swajal department and instructed the officials to execute their works without delay. Pauri DM Chandresh Kumar said that Rs seven crore has been distributed to departments for the repair and reconstruction works in disaster affected areas.
