In an important development, Udham Singh Nagar SSP Kewal Khurana has been transferred and made OSD (Officer on Special Duty) of the State Chief Minister. SP Uttarkashi, Anant Shankar Takwale has replaced him.
This followed Haridwar Police registering a case against the former SSP Haridwar Khurana and inspector Rajeev Dandriyal following a complaint lodged by a farmer to the Chief Minister in writing. As per a government order dated March 24 2016, a departmental probe team has been entrusted with the task of looking into the charge- sheets issued by Kewal Khurana as the SSP Haridwar in a factory fire case which occurred in 2012. It is alleged that the SSP had misused his powers and did not fairly investigate the matter. The matter was also raised in Vidhan Sabha recently
A major fire broke out in the electronic equipment manufacturing factory in Nagla Sarau village and 13 people lost their lives.
As per the complainant, Ravindra Kumar, son of Madan lal hailing from the same village Nagla Salaru, the erstwhile SSP of Haridwar Kewal Khurana and the investigating officer Rajeev Dandriyal had misused their powers to weaken the case.
The erstwhile SSP Kewal Khurana had allegedly changed the sections of IPC under which the case was registered.
As per the Government Order dated 24 March, a case has been lodged against Khurana under the jurisdiction of Mangalore thana under sections 166A, 217, 218.
