Chief Judicial Magistrate Sudhir Kumar Singh on Wednesday sent former Uttar Pradesh MlA Manoj Paras (Samajwadi Party) to judicial remand in connection with an abduction case after the MlA surrendered before the court on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, the court had issued non-bailable warrant against Paras in connection with the abduction case.

The former lawmaker of the neighbouring State is now in Pauri jail. lawyers associated with the case said that the accused could appeal for bail in the session court camp at Kotdwar.

Prior to the surrender of Paras, several other accused of the case including former UP Minister Mool Chand, Bijnor Samajwadi Part president Rashid and Zila panchayat member Kapil also surrendered before the court on May 16 after non-bailable warrants were issued against them.

They were granted bail. The court said Paras’s appeal for bail has been rejected because of his refusal to surrender for a long time despite repeated summons from the court.

Notably, a kidnapping case had been registered in the laxmanjhula police station on the basis of the report lodged by one Rohit Kumar of Bijnor on January 18, 2013 against ten persons.

As was reported, during the time of the Bijnor Zila Panchayat election 2013, many zila panchayat members, unwilling to cast votes, had gone to laxmanjhula and stayed in a resort there. Around 150 persons led by former Uttar Pradesh Minister Mool Chandra had allegedly reached the resort in district Pauri and abducted the zila panchayat members.
