In order to save energy, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) officials provided 1.5 lakh lED bulbs to the people of Dehradun. These bulbs are being distributed through the Union Government’s energy efficiency service. Notably, Chief Minister Harish Rawat had formally distributed lED bulbs among the consumers on the State’s foundation day on November 9. Consumers are getting three lED bulbs at easy monthly installments with three years of warranty and the other seven bulbs can be received by cash for 100 per bulb.
The UPCl spokesperson Madhusudan Issar said that the total annual demand of power by consumers in the State is around 10, 000 MU and if consumers would use lED bulbs over 193 MU will be saved per annum in the State. “As of now, our target is to provide lED bulbs to at least 18.55 lakh consumers. Around 56 lakh lED bulb would be sold within a few months,” he added. The UPCl senior officer had earlier appealed to the consumers to replace normal bulbs with lED bulbs,” he added.
The consumers can collect lED bulbs at as many as 50 stalls set up in Dehradun district. later on, it will be distributed in other parts of the State, he said. “This bulb is cost- effective and environment- friendly. More over lED bulb will not break easily if it falls. lED bulb is sold at `100,” he further said.
The scheme would prove a milestone as it would help to ensure better availability of power for the lakhs of power consumers, he added.
