Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Dhirendra Pratap has resigned from the post of the State Congress membership campaign coordinator stating that he was not informed about a meeting called regarding the membership campaign by the Uttarakhand PCC chief Kishore Upadhyaya in Dehradun on Wednesday.

The resignation which comes on the eve of the membership campaign programme in the State capital has elicited focus on the problems facing the Congress in Uttarakhand.

Though Pratap has stated that he is not miffed at anyone and will continue fulfilling his other responsibilities as in the past, his resignation from the post of the Congress membership campaign coordinator has once again elicited focus on factionalism and disgruntled members in the Congress. According to Pratap, he resigned from the post on Tuesday as he was not informed about the party membership campaign programme called by the PCC chief in Dehradun on Wednesday.

However, he will continue to work in the party as in the past and on Wednesday will participate in the meeting called by the Haridwar district magistrate regarding issues related to Statehood agitationists. It is pertinent to note here that though the Uttarakhand PCC chief has denied reports of factionalism in the party since assuming charge earlier this year, Upadhyaya is considered to be close to chief minister Harish Rawat while Pratap is considered to be close to various party leaders.
