Expressing concern about the severe condition resulting from the serious level of air pollution in the national capital New Delhi, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay has written a letter to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat seeking effective measures against air pollution in the State of Uttarakhand. It  is not just about the saving the lives of some humans but now an issue about saving all living creatures, he said.

According to the Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesman Mathura Datt Joshi, in his letter to the State Chief Minister, the PCC chief spoke of his own connection with environmental issues especially those related to the concerns of Himalayan states, stressing that the State of Uttarakhand had made the maximum level of contribution among the Himalayan states for the protection of the environment and the biggest contribution in Indian and abroad for facilitating the sources and supply of water. The PCC chief goes on to state his letter to the Chief Minister that it is all the more important to tackle the air pollution in Uttarakahnd because people of the State living amidst clean air and environment send their children for higher studies to polluted cities. On the other hand, tourists visiting from parts of India and abroad  enjoy the experience of living for a few days in the clean environment of Uttarakhand. He further states, “This is not a question about just the saving of human lives but an issue which pertains to the protection of all living creatures. Concrete measures need to be taken now in order to ensure that the serious environmental issue as seen in the severe air-pollution condition being faced in Delhi do not become a problematic experience in the future for Uttarakhand. It is not an issue about saving the lives of only some human beings but an issue which concerns the lives of living creatures. Concrete and effective measures need to be taken without delay to ensure that such polluted conditions are not faced in Uttarakhand state in the future,” said the PCC chief. Upadhyay pointed at the role of the Central Government statingwhile requiring the centre for cooperation  stressed that all the people of Uttarakhand should expect that the Union  Government should facilitate the necessary assistance. All the people of Uttarakhand should seek the necessary assistance from the Central Government on this vital issue. Expressing his appreciation for chief minister Harish Rawat for calling the Vidhan Sabha session at Gairsain, Upadhyay stressed that it would be appreciable if this issue of air pollution is also taken up during the session and doing the necessary towards facilitating redressal of the pollution issue is also taken up during the planned assembly session in Gairsain.
