Unscheduled load-shedding running into hours has landed the people across Kumaon division in dire straits. And with the sweltering summer heat, things are proving insufferable for them.
“The suffering we have been undergoing flies in the face of the State Government’s claim of having provided the people with basic services,” said an aggrieved resident of Haldwani.
The people of Haldwani have borne the brunt of the crumbling power service on Wednesday. Compounding things, the power outages are spawning in their wake acute drinking water scarcity in many parts of Haldwani, including Push Vihar, Gasgodam and Kushumkhera. Here, the water supply system is run by power.
According to the power supply officials, local faults are leading to the power breakdowns. The people say that the repairing work into such faults being delayed is adding to their woes.
“It is easily understandable how we are suffering in this blistering summer with power and drinking water proving elusive,” said another resident of Haldwani.
The hilly and the rural areas are also suffering equally, if not more, with the power supply being frequently disrupted. Besides, the industry sector is being affected due to poor supply of power. “We need uninterrupted power supply to keep things going on. However, spells of power- cuts are affecting productivity,” an industrialist, based in the region, said.
