Even after routine Vidhan Sabha sessions which must have included repeated inspection by senior officials of the state administration and district officials, the officers and political leaders including Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat seem not to have noticed the open drains on both sides of the road between the bridge across the Rispana and the Chanchal dairy.
One of the busiest roads even on usual days which bears extra load of protestors during the Assembly session, this stretch presents a glaring example of the continued incompetence of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and other departments concerned.
In the past few years many vehicles have also fallen into the uncovered roadside drain during the rains since this stretch gets waterlogged, making it impossible for roadusers to know where the road ends and where the drain starts,.
On Monday as well, during the tussle between protesters marching towards Vidhan Sabha and police force deployed at the Rispana barricading had to go through the foul smell coming from the drain.
More than once, protesters and police personnel were in a danger to step into the drains. The commuters passing through the area also complained about the same. The people questioned that the Government and the administration will only take steps after some mishap.
A senior district official present at the barricading said that their work is to maintain law and order. The drains are practical problems here, but providing the solution is not under their jurisdiction. This work should be taken as priority by MCD.
