Irked over the callous approach of the UP Government and barbaric action against medical students of Kanpur medical college, Indian Medical Association (IMA) Uttarakhand Chapter has decided to boycott the medical and health services on Thursday.

Besides, Government doctors under the banner of Provincial Medical Health Service Association (PMHSA) has also decided to extend its support to IMA and decided to boycott the Out Patients’ Department (OPD) services in the Government hospitals  in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand. While addressing the mediapersons in a press conference held in Dehradun on Wednesday, Dr Kuldeep Datta, President, IMA, Dehradun branch said that IMA members have decided to boycott the medical and health services in order to register their protest against barbaric incident against the medical students in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

He lamented that instead of taking action against the accused, the district administration and district police has registered the case against the medical students. After expressing her antipathy over the incident, Dr Geeta Khanna, honorary secretary, IMA, Dehradun branch said that the government and private practitioners from Uttarakhand are also in the mood to hit the roads against the alleged cane charge and the police action on medical students of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College (GSVM), Kanpur on Friday last week.

She said that the government and private practitioners have decided to boycott the medical and health services on Thursday in support of their demands which include quashing the case registered against medicos, stringent action against MlA and police personnel and ordering CBI probe into the matter. Echoing the same feelings, Dr SK Goswami, state general secretary, PMHSA said that the government doctors will boycott the medical and health services in district hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres etc. across the state on Thursday against the apathy attitude of the UP government.  He said that medical officers are into the mood of decisive show. However, all those patients who come from the higher parts of the state to district hospitals would be among the  major sufferers due to proposed strike by the medical practitioners in the state on Thursday.
