In a novel attempt the answer sheets of Class X and XII students of Uttarakhand board would be evaluated digitally. The move is aimed to remove complaints of irregularities and mistakes in the process of awarding marks in the board examinations of Uttarakhand Vidhyalayi Shiksha Parishad (UVSP). The complaints of wrong marking, awarding less numbers and mistakes while doing total of marks are most common.
In a recent meeting with the top officials of UVSP, the Director General School education, D Senthil Pandian directed that use of new technology should be taken to remove such complaints of the students. In this type of evaluation the teachers examining the copies are provided with a digital pen when uploads the contents in the chip associated with the pen.
Confirming the development, Pandian said that the decision in this respect is taken in the review meeting and process of digitising the evaluation process would be soon initiated. He informed that teams of education department would take a tour of the States which have implemented the scheme successfully soon and based on their report, the project in the state would be finalised.
The department is also planning to digitise the answer sheets and make them available on line to increase transparency in the entire process of examination. In the later stages the checked answer sheets would be dispatched on the personal E mail IDs on the students. The Uttarakhand board is also planning to implement the process in the Uttarakhand Teacher Eligibility Test (UTET) which is also organised by the UVSP. The department is doing this to avoid the instances where teachers managed to get the Government jobs on the basis of forged or fake documents.
The parents of the students seemed happy on the new development. “There are always some doubts on the marking pattern and process of evaluation in the minds of parents and students. With this process of digitising the process of evaluation and making the answer sheets available online more transparency would come in the whole process and confidence in the Uttarakhand board would increase,’’ said father of class IX student.
