Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) is mulling over construction of two power houses of 10 MVA each to cater to the growing needs of electricity in the district during fairs and fests.

The power corporation has got approval and is now preparing to send a budgetary estimate for the same to the Government. With the installation of these two power houses, some two lakh people are expected to be benefited, say the officials.

From these two power houses, electricity shall be provided in and around Laltarao and Jagjeetpur areas. At present electricity is supplied from Laljiwala sub-station to Laltarao area in Haridwar which is the main connecting area to Har ki Paidi. In Jagjitpur, power supply is made through Kankhal sub-station. In the holy city apart from the snan days based on lunar calendar, other small fairs and festivals are held around the year due to which the electricity load is increased and power crisis occurs.
