At a time when tourists have started arriving in Mussoorie, Dehradun and other parts of the State, the condition of traffic in the State capital has deteriorated further because the authorities have failed to properly regulate traffic. This is posing inconvenience to both the locals and the tourists, especially those visiting Mussoorie.
Tourists passing through Dehradun to Mussoorie end up wasting considerable time due to traffic congestion and on reaching Mussoorie, many of the visitors face a hard time trying to find parking space for their vehicles. Roorkee resident Ankit Chauhan who had come here to visit Mussoorie said that he was stuck for two hours due to traffic jam on the Saharanpur Road near the Dat Kali temple recently. He said that the police failed to act efficiently on time which extended the duration of the traffic jam.
Observers point out that within a week there have been long traffic jams en route to Mussoorie on two days. Apart from the failure of the police to properly regulate the traffic, the roadside encroachments and other factors are also exacerbating the disorder being experienced on the roads of the State capital. Though the City Patrol Unit of the police does penalise vehicle users for violation of various regulations, this has evidently not helped improve the traffic situation in Dehradun. On condition of anonymity, traffic police personnel state that the lack of traffic sense and the blatant violation of traffic regulations by road users is one of the factors responsible for the deteriorating condition of traffic in the State capital.
