Tourism Development Board would set up temporary camps for Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra scheduled to take place this year after a gap of 13 years. Simultaneously, the board would take efforts for developing facilities for the devotees as part of its plan to promote eco tourism in the region.

The board would set up more than 150 camps on way to the Yatra for the devotees. The temporary camps would be shifted from a location to other one. Board has also planned developing several facilities in “Nauti-Kaswa-Chandpurgarhi-Same Heritage and Eco tourism circuit” and “Kurud-Nandkeshari Van/ Ban-Vedni Jheel Heritage, and Eco tourism circuit.”

The Board would spend around Rs14 crore in developing the facilities.  Joint director Tourism AK Dwivedi said, “Temporary camps and other infrastructural facilities would be developed in the region for the Yatra that takes place once in 12 years.” He further added that the Rs15 crore for the purpose has already been released from the state contingency fund to initiate work for setting up camps and other infrastructural works. He claimed that the board would not leave any stone unturned for making the Yatra a most successful event of the year and efforts were on.

It may be mentioned here that the board sent three proposals, each worth Rs8 crore, to Union tourism ministry for carrying out development in tourism zones. The department officials are hopeful of approval of the projects.

“Implementation of the projects would enhance tourism in the state further since the projects would help in developing facilities,” Dwivedi said.

Dwivedi said that the task of the camps and development would start within two week. The sources, however, said that the board was awaiting approval of the project for initiating the works. Task of carrying out development work could be started only after approval of the projects sent to the union tourism ministry.
