Amid decreasing atmospheric temperature as reported from higher altitudes of different parts of the hill State, cloudy conditions in other areas including terai region of the Kumaon division restricted mobility on Sunday.
Being a public holiday on Sunday, people chose to restrict their movements due to increasing cold conditions here on Sunday. Meanwhile, tour operators have welcomed the sudden fall in atmospheric temperature. Ahead of the Xmas and new year celebrations, such kind of weather conditions could be quite conducive to cause snowfall in high altitude tourist destinations like Nainital, said
Jatin Shah, a tour operator here. The matter of fact is that a majority of the tourists come to visit here in Nainital only to see snowfall during this time. Therefore, if snowfall occurs during the festive season ahead, it may help us attract maximum number of tourists, he expressed hope. These cloudy conditions may have come as welcome development for tourist and tour operators. But farmers need more. The farmers here are of the view that since rainfall is almost nil since rainy season,
therefore, raining this time is a must for crops. Since there are other alternatives to rainfall like tube-wells in terai region for irrigation purpose, farmers belonging to hilly regions need the rainfall most for their crops.
