Though public transport was totally banned in view of polling on Wednesday, individual vehicle owners particularly bikers experienced a tough time as petrol pumps also remained closed here on the occasion of voting.
A majority of the motorists were found searching for fuel after casting their votes in different polling booths in Haldwani Assembly constituency on Wednesday. We were not sure about closure of even petrol pumps on the day of polling, said Pankanj Sanwal, while enquiring about a petrol pump on the Kaladhungi Road in Hadwani after casting his vote.
“It is in our knowledge that the voting day has been declared as public holiday. But it was not clear that even the essential services like petrol pumps would also remain closed today,” he added. All the busy market places were closed except a few essential services like medical shops and hospitals. However, the district administration Nainital has already made it clear that public transport would be remnain fully banned on the occasion of voting on Wednesday.
