Too few complaints posted on police portal for citizens

PNS

A few complaints have been received from the people on citizens’ portal launched by the State police on November 9, 2015 to enable the common people to lodge complaints online.

State Additional Director- General of Police (ADGP) Ram Singh Meena said that the people should not hesitate to have their complaints registered on the citizen’s portal if they face problems. The response being poor, the district police officers have been directed to launch public awareness programme about the scheme.

He said that the portal, a part of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS), can be visited on the website -ukpolicecitizenportal.uk.gov.in/citizen/login.aspx. One can register his or her complaint after filling necessary information like mobile number. One time password (OTP) number will be generated once the complaint is received.

He further said that under the interoperable criminal justice system as envisaged by the Centre, court, jail, forensic science laboratory (FSl) and others will be interconnected with the police station and police department. Calling it a milestone in the realm of policing, he said its success would transform the picture of criminal justice system. Police provide computerised First Information Report (FIR) copy to the complainants.

The Centre had earlier approved around Rs 16 crores required for completing the project. State police received Rs 10 crores and the amount was spent. Recently, the department has received Rs two crore more under the project, he added.

The digitisation of data in around 170 police stations and offices of senior police officers have almost been completed. A proposal sent for installing CCTNS in 27 new police stations have been approved and with the release of funds, works related to this project would be started, Meena said.

He further said that through digital police portal, all the police stations across the country would be interlinked.

Meena further said that three computers, one camera, power generator and two printers have been given to all the police stations under CCTNS project. The FIR and other relevant information like case dairy, general diary and others were already uploaded by the police officers concerned in CAS-4.0 in their police stations. The data centres and data recovery centres have been established in Delhi and Pune.

Around 10 years’ record of police department are being digitised and for this, the system integrator NIIT limited has been given deadline to complete the assigned works, he added.

It should be mentioned here that the CCTNS will have details like first information report, charge- sheet, complete information about the criminal, panchanamas and status of cases. This will help in strengthening the monitoring system as  the department officers can easily supervise crime cases in the State.

Additionally, it would focus primarily on functionality at police station with special emphasis on crime investigation and criminals’ detection. Citizens have been facilitated to register online FIR in their respective local police station too.
