These days life is really tough for those belonging to political parties as they are on their toes from early morning till late hours of the day seeking votes for their candidates.
Things are more difficult for the aspirants because apart from reaching out to maximum number of people they have to be in best of their health till the elections are over.
In such a hectic schedule the seasoned politicians keep a strict control on their food intake and try to take adequate amount of sleep.
The experienced politicians know the importance of keeping hale and hearty till the end of electioneering as absence of even one day due to illness could mar their electoral prospects.
Explaining the importance of proper diet the dietician of associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Richa Kukreti said that politicians who are into thick of things these days should avoid heavy and fried food.
“They should avoid taking too much of tea and instead drink copious amount of water. The water should preferably be lukewarm. They should take simple easily digestible food and if possible take a glass of lukewarm milk along with a piece of jaggery before sleep. It will keep their digestion in control and enhance immunity. While travelling they should keep oat biscuit, gram and soaked almonds with them for occasional munch or two,’’ she said.
These days most of the politicians are also under various kinds of pressure and psychologists believe that different people respond differently to such pressures.
Information about internal sabotage and opposition gaining electoral advantage are some the mental pressures politicians have to undergo during this phase.
Clinical psychologist and associate professor in Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here, Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta terms these pressures as stressors which can or cannot induce stress.
“It depends on the person how he tackles the stressor. These stressors can induce stress in person with weak nerves while a person of higher mental strength can remain unaffected. My advice is that one should exhibit mental toughness, think positive, learn to forgive and forget and move forward with future course of action,’’ she said.
The clinical psychologist also emphasised on the importance of good sleep as sleep deprivation induces negative hormone Cortisol.
She recommended that Netas should devote sometime for themselves and do some Yoga or breathing exercises to keep them rejuvenated in the hustle and bustle of electioneering.
