Thunderstorm lashes Kumaon

PNS

Normal life was affected due to thunderstorms that hit many parts of Kumaon region, including its Terai belt, late Wednesday afternoon. The spell of rough climate might worsen the woes of the farmers who are still reeling under the adverse impact wreaked by unseasonal rains. Wednesday’s storm is supposed to have damaged vegetables and fruits, particularly litchi, grown by them in different parts of the region.

The storm coupled with rains might have provided much- needed relief to the people from the scorching summer heat. However, at the same time, it   flattened electricity poles and  trees, including fruits tress like litchi,  across   Kumaon.

Trees felled by the storm spawned traffic disruption. Surprisingly enough, the trees that were felled during last month’s storm are yet to be removed from   Haldwani-Rampur Road.

Uprooted trees lying right on the roads, clogging traffic, have been found along many of the important roads like   Nainital- Haldwani Road, Haldwani-Rampur Road and Haldwani- Bareli Road on Wednesday evening.

Electric poles being flattened caused power-cuts too in many places. Power remaining out spawned in its wake drinking water problem in Haldwani.
