An absconding auto-driver and two of his aides accused in a rape case of Varanasi-based minors were arrested by Haridwar police from Jagjeetpur village on Friday. The accused had allegedly raped two minor sisters who had run away from their homes in Varanasi and come to Haridwar while the third girl, a cousin of the siblings, who also ran away managed to escape. After returning home in Varanasi, she told her parents about the incident and police was informed.
As per the police, the girls had reached Haridwar ten days ago on January 5. They met the auto driver Vasu at the railway station who took them along to an ashram under the pretext of giving them a room in Bhupatwala area. He got two rooms booked on his own identity card. The three accused came to the rooms and raped the girls. The crime continued several times since, police said.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Thana in-charge Mahendra Singh Negi said, “The matter came to surface when one of the girls came with her parents to lodge complaint about the incident. We rescued the victims and arrested the auto driver, his brother- in- law and an employee of the ashram in connection with the case.”
