Though the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) measures air pollution during Deepawali in select locations, this time a local think tank-Gati Foundation is also preparing to measure air pollution on the occasion.

According to the think tank, this will be the first time when air pollution will be measured in here before and after Deepawali.

The foundation’s co-founder Ashutosh Kandwal informed that as in various other cities of India, air pollution has been rising in Dehradun too.

Data from the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) shows that the State of air pollution is worsening in the city.

Despite various efforts to encourage an eco-friendly Deepawali, the trend of bursting firecrackers on this festival has been on the rise. Gati Foundation will undertake a five-day campaign to measure air pollution.

It will start on November 5, two days before the festival and continue two days after the festival till November 9. Modern equipment will be used to measure PM 2.5 and PM 10 in the air.

Later on a report will also be prepared on the findings of this campaign. The report will be submitted to the departments concerned with the hope that measures will be taken to curb pollution on festive occasions, added Kandwal.
