Samajwadi Party State president Dr Satyanarayan Sachan alleged that most of people who assembled for Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s rally were there to see Rahul Gandhi and not to hear his speech.
“The Congress party has failed to draw crowds to Rahul Gandhi’s rally. The party has been running the Government in the State for the last two years and despite spending crores of rupees, had failed to draw a huge crowd to the rally addressed by its vice president,” he added.
He further said that after Rahul Gandhi’s arrival at Parade Ground, people started coming to the venue to see him but when his speech began, people started to leave.
The crowd was not large enough to make it a historical event. The SP leader said that Congress leaders may claim that around one lakh people had attended the rally but the number of people that had gathered there was far less than what was being claimed.
Dr Sachan said that there was nothing new in Rahul Gandhi’s speech as he blamed BJP for corruption and promised youth and women employment and empowerment if party wins the forthcoming general election.
"He was making tall claims about eradicating corruption in the country through lokpal or other means but he didn't utter a single word about the rampant corruption in the last 10 years of Congress rule at centre," said Sachan while adding that the SP has terminated Neeraj Chauhan’s candidature from Tehri lok Sabha constituency and that the name of new candidate from this seat will be declared soon.
According to him, the party has already declared its candidates’ names for the forthcoming parliamentary election. Avtar Singh will contest election from Nainital parliamentary constituency while Bhagwati Prasad will contest from Almora, Kuldeep Rawat from Pauri and Azmal Shahnawaz from Haridwar seat.
