PNS

Acting on the initiative of the state director general of police MA Ganapathy, Tehri district police organised an awareness camp for the students of the government-run schools at Camp Song Brook near Maldevta. It was focused on making the children aware of the ills of drug abuse aside from acquainting them with the rudiments of disaster management.

DGP Ganapathy had earlier said that police had taken initiatives for the residents of disaster-prone Chomali, Rudraprayag, Pithoragar and Uttarkashi districts to be trained by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel. He had further said that things would be supplemented by awareness campaign for the school children to be held in the higher reaches of the state which are vulnerable to natural calamities.

A police officer associated with the camp said that they were happy to act on the directive of the state top cop.  “The awareness camp for the school children was successful. Aside from making them aware of the rudiments of disaster management, they were instructed on the ABC of traffic rules. They were asked to be extra careful about the menace of overloading that lead to road mishaps, resulting in casualties.  Besides, they were shown a film about the usefulness of wearing helmets,” he said. He further said that the teachers, police personnel and students had interacted at the camp.  Present on the occasion were SHO (Thana Chamba) DS Chauhan, in charge-Kumalda-Chowki PD Bhatt, Dr Rakesh Uniyal, Col PC Saklani and Ashutosh Saklani.
