The lecturer Teachers (lT) and lecturers of Dehradun district belonging to the Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) elected their new working committee here on Friday. The election officer SS Bisht said that Narendra Singh Bisht was elected for the position of District President. He defeated Sohan Singh Negi by a wafer thin margin of two votes as he secured 517 votes while Negi got 515 votes.
The thin margin prompted the supporters of Negi to demand for a recounting of votes. In the position of Vice President the J S Rawat was elected as he secured 670 votes while his nearest rival got 399 votes. The election officer further informed that Gajendra Bhatt was elected as organisation secretary while Subhash Jhildiyal won the election of secretary defeating his nearest rival Nagendra Purohit. On the post of Joint Secretary Ajay Panwar was declared victorious.
The election of the Dehradun district committee has started the process of elections in the different district units of the RSS. It is worth mentioning here that the elections in the teaching body are overdue as the two year term of the working committee of the RSS ended on August 31 this year. The process of organizational elections starts with the election of delegates who elect the block, district and state working committee.
The division within the ranks of RSS became apparent recently when some leaders questioned the propriety of Sardar Singh Chauhan continuing as the General Secretary of the organisation even after his retirement.
