Intensifying its agitation the organisation of teachers of High schools and inter colleges the Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) has decided to lock the offices of Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and Block Education Officers from Friday and start the chalk down strike in the schools.
The teachers belonging to the RSS are camping in front of education directorate from the Teachers’ Day (September 5) against what they allege anti teacher policies of the State Government. These teachers adopted the rotational policy of agitation in which the different district unit protested on separate days.
On Thursday it was the turn of teachers of Champawat district to lodge their protest. Speaking on the occasion the State President of RSS Karnel Singh said that Government is non sympathetic to the genuine demands of teachers and instead of solving the problem it is adopting a high headed approach. He said that the department transferred one of the office bearers of the RSS Deepak Rana from Dehradun to Pithoragarh to put pressure on the organisation but the teachers would not be bogged down by such attempts. Singh said that on Friday the members of the organisation would lock the offices of all the 95 BEOs and 13 CEOs and from Saturday the agitation would resume at education directorate. The district President of the Champawat A S Oli said that the disparity in providing selection scales to the teachers of Garhwal and Kumaon division should immediately be removed.
The teachers are demanding cancellation of transfer of teachers done in the name of attachment, payment of inaccessible allowance for the teachers posted in inaccessible areas of state, benefit of paid leaves for the period of Panchayat election duties, benefit of Assured Career Progression (ACP) and promotions to 700 vacant posts of Principals. The teachers are also annoyed with the department’s decision to declare many posts of lecturer Teachers (lT) surplus.
