The Primary education directorate released the transfer list of 159 teachers on Tuesday while in Secondary education, the department transferred 97 teachers in the name of attachment.
These transfers, however, have not gone well with the teacher organizations which have termed these transfers arbitrary and threatened to launch an agitation. The transfers of the Primary Teachers are ostensibly done in name of providing relief to the ill teachers. Department sources revealed that the names of many such teachers are in the list which does not fall in the guidelines of the illness of the department. These teachers managed to get postings in the desired place with the connections they had with the high and mighty. It is learnt that about half of these transfers have occurred from the remote areas to the schools of Dehradun district. Interestingly, these transfers have occurred when the senior officials of the department are consistently talking about bringing a proper transfer policy of the teachers. The Primary Education Director, DS Kunwar told The Pioneer that as per the existing transfer policy, the department had asked the teachers to submit their transfer requests in the month of February. He claimed that nothing irregular has occurred in these transfers.
The District President of Prathmik Shikshak Sangh VS Krishali told The Pioneer that the transfers have occurred against the norms. He said that the teachers from neighbouring districts are being transferred to accessible schools in Dehradun, while many teachers of the district who are posted in the remote areas are waiting for years. Krishali said that the organization would observe a complete strike in Dehradun district from August 28.
In protest against what they allege gross violation of the norms in transfers’ teachers of High schools and Inter colleges in the name of attachment, the Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh has also threatened to launch an agitation from September 18. This organisation is protesting against the attachment of 66 teachers of Garhwal division and 33 teachers of Kumaon Division.
