Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat having asked the Chief Secretary to take disciplinary actions against the Government employees found absent during the Independence Day celebration on Tuesday while stressing on the adverse entry being marked in their annual character reports (ACR) has left the Government employees on edge.
Many of them, have, however, vented anger against the CM, saying that their presence at the I-Day programme has never been mandatory. They further said they are Government servants and not slaves.
“As per the order, the employees came but they did not get in their offices as they were closed. In view of this, it is open to question how the State Government would fix who were present and who were not. Such an action would encourage the heads of the departments to settle personal scores with the officers not loyal enough to them. It is like putting the onus on the employees to prove that they have not flouted the order. And even they prove that they were on the right side of the order it is up to the whims of HoDs to decide things for them,” said an observer.
An employee of the secretariat said while talking to this correspondent that he along with others had come to the office to register their attendance through the biometric machine. “But the rooms were not open. Now, how are we to prove that we reached the officeIJ Sacking us is one thing while making adverse entry into our ACRs for no fault of ours is something more detestable,” he said.
It is learnt that acting on the order of the CM, the Chief Secretary has written to the heads of the departments (HoDs),
commissioners and district magistrates (DMs) to serve show- cause notice to the ‘errant’ officers and employees. He has also asked them to take stern action against them in case they fail to give satisfactory explanations for their non-attendance of the important national day celebration programme .
