PNS

The new BJP Government should focus on issues of women in Uttarakhand and implement a ‘Women policy’ in the State, said the former Chairperson of State women commission and renowned statehood activist Sushila Balooni while interacting with the Pioneer on Thursday.  She said that the BJP has got an unprecedented verdict in its favour in the state and the party should now plan and implement such schemes which benefit the people of the state.   Balooni was of the view that the state should device and implement a policy for the women so that development of female population of state is ensured. “In our rural areas government should encourage setting up of cottage and small industrial units based on agriculture, horticulture and cultivation of medicinal herbs and aromatic plants so that income of local population especially women increases.  The rural women should be given training to prepare jams, jellies, fruit juices and pickles from their farm produce. It will also reduce migration from hills,’’ she said. Balooni said that the BJP should seriously think about providing 33 percent reservation to women in the state. She accepted that the party was stingy in providing tickets to women in the just concluded assembly elections but it should now make amends by increasing representation of women.
