In a renewed attack on the District Magistrate of Haridwar, Deepak Rawat, against whom one of the Matri Sadan followers lodged an attempt to murder charge for beating another inmate in a closed room, the head of the ashram Swami Shivanand said that the DM is challenging the Constitution and is ignorant of the nuances of the laws he is mandated to uphold.
“Not just the DM but his subordinates are taking the Constitution for a ride,” he said while addressing a press conference in his ashram at Jagjeetpur on Thursday. “They do not know that prohibitory order cannot be enforced under Section 144 of CRPC.
This is what the ADM has done at the behest of the DM,” the seer said while referring to the district administration having issued such an order for his ashram on December 29 after Brahmachari Atmabodhanand vented anger during a felicitation programme of the DM.
The seer further said that Atmabodhanand was released from jail on bail obtained through a staggering amount of Rs 50,000. “What is more, he was released on 27 December morning a day after the order was released, facts that reveal how vindictive the DM is over an articulation of annoyance by a seer in a peaceful manner,” Shivanand said.
Speaking on illegal mining on the Ganga riverbed, an issue over which Matri Sadan has been fighting the administration for some time, he said that the State revenue department is incurring a loss of Rs 2.25 crore daily because of the illegal mining. He further said that his missions will continue in future.
