A district wise survey to calculate the annual income of the farmers has been initiated by the Agriculture department. The survey is being necessitated as the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has given a call to double the income of the farmers by the year 2020.
The Secretary Agriculture, D Senthil Pandian said that based on the results of the survey exact income of the farmers would be calculated so that efforts to double their income are taken in right prospective.
In Uttarakhand, 92 percent of the farmers belong to small and marginal category. Pandian said that an earlier survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) has put the average income of all the farmers of the state at Rs 59000 per annum. The income of the farmers is broadly calculated by adding Agriculture income generated by the sale of the farm produce, income generated from other activity, earning made in form of wages done them in works like MNREGA and social security pensions provided by the government.
